Brantford needs to say sorry

Brantford City mayor Chris Friel took time during his speech at the annual levee last weekend to note while Canada is celebrating its 150 years of confederation, Brantford is older. He pointed out the city of Brantford is 140 years old. But as a village centre, he says it is 170 years old and went on to talk about the history of the city including the Alexander Graham Bell Memorial. Friel said 2017 is going to fun and something remarkable. And it will be remarkable indeed if Friel, who likes to consider himself an amateur historian, remember’s Brant’s Ford’s roots go back further than the city’s age to the settlement of the Mohawks along the Grand and on the very lands the city has encroached on over the years.
