Wynne’s budget 2017 proposes to keep secrets for indigenous leaders

There are already too many secrets. And Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is helping no one by proposing more. Oddly back in the pages of Ontario’s Budget 2017 is an unusual section dealing with enhancing indigenous partnerships by keeping secrets. Back behind the flowery words on programs for Indigenous children, MMIW, implementing the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is a proposal to keep information provided to Ontario or municipalities by Indigenous partners secret. That’s right Ontario is proposing there be more secrets and is planning to amend the Freedom of Information Act to keep information it receives from Indigenous partners secret.
