HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON – The Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people in a May assault and robbery, including a Mississauga of New Credit man, after a man was assaulted and injured with an alleged firearm in a robbery on Main Street North, Hagersville, Ont., May 15, 2017.
On Monday May 15, 2017 at 2:24 p.m., OPP responded to Main Street North for a theft in progress where it was reported an unknown suspect grabbed the victim from behind as he was entering his vehicle, pulled the victim away from the vehicle before pointing and striking the victim with an alleged firearm and striking the victim in the head area.
OPP investigation, thus far, has determined the victim had placed a quantity of Canadian currency on the passenger seat of their vehicle, when the unknown suspect suddenly approached the victim demanding the keys to the vehicle and for the victim to get out of the vehicle. During a brief struggle, the victim was struck by the suspect in the head area with an alleged firearm.
The suspect then entered the vehicle and fled the area.
The stolen vehicle was described as a silver 2016 Lincoln MKX SUV and was last seen travelling southbound on Main Street before turning west onto King Street.
The victim was treated for minor injuries by Haldimand County paramedics.
The suspect was described as:
• Indigenous male
• Approximately 20 – 25 years old
• Approximately six (6) feet tall, 160 lbs., thin build with dark brush cut style hair
• Teardrop tattoo on the outside corner of right eye and a cross tattoo above tear drop
• Wearing a black windbreaker style jacket, black windbreaker style pants with a vertical white stripe on the outside of each leg, dark baseball cap and carrying a dark medium sized back pack.
The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate and encourages anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
Through the course of investigation, members of the Haldimand OPP Crime Unit identified two suspects in connection with the robbery.
A male and female were arrested.
OPP has charged 20-year-old Randall McKenzie of the Mississauga’s of the New Credit First Nation with:
• Robbery using a firearm
• Assault with a weapon
• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Theft under $5,000.00
• Multiple firearms offences
• Failing to Comply with a probation order
• Disobeying a court order
He was held for a bail hearing at Provincial Court Cayuga.
OPP has also charged 31-year-old Whitney Mason of Hagersville, Ontario with Robbery.
She is to appear in Provincial Court Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.
