MMIWG need to open doors and get work done

Their mandate is huge. The results will be historic and set the tone for so many government agencies at all levels in the future. Police forces will be called to task, justice systems questioned, Canadian institutions will have to answer for how they plan to move forward, having ignored some of the country’s most vulnerable. And it is expected, if not to bring closure, to at least help those who have lost loved ones to move another step along their healing path. There is a great deal riding on the success of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s Inquiry and the loss of four senior staff members and now a commissioner does not signal confidence to those following the at times chaotic inquiry that appears determined to keep its doors…
