Haudenosaunee hunt set for Short Hills this weekend

By Lynda Powless Editor Haudenosaunee hunters will take to the woods this weekend but fully expect to be greeted by opposition when the annual hunt at Short Hills Provincial Park near St. Catharines opens Saturday. “We are anticipating the usual small number of protesters at Short Hills but no other problems this weekend,” said Paul Williams, a member of the Haudenosaunee Wildlife and Habitat Authority (HWHA). Haudenosaunee began exercise their hunting rights on provincial lands in 2013. The HWHA have set the annual hunt to run six days starting November 11 (Saturday) and running to Dec 5. In addition to the Short Hills, the HWHA will hold a hunt in Dundas Valley on most weekdays between mid-November and early January for the seventh annual deer hunt there.
