Six Nations Band Council to get $12.5 million over Brantford Casino

By Lynda Powless Editor Six Nations Elected Council has entered into a tentative agreement with Ontario to accept a one time payment of $12.5 million and annual payments of $4.5 million over Ontario’s failure to consult with Six Nations on the recent Brantford Casino transaction. Six Nations Band Council agreed to accept the tentative agreement in a closed meeting Tuesday night. However, band councillors were not aware that Great Canadian Gaming Corporation had been chosen at the time of the closed meeting. The payments do not involve any land claim settlements . Six Nations Band council announced the tentative agreement late Thursday just before closing for the holidays. Negotiations have been ongoing for months.
