County of Brant, ON – With a winter storm anticipated to drop 20 cm of snow over the County of Brant starting Friday afternoon, the County Roads Crews are urging residents to do their part.
“When we experience heavy wet snow, the task of removing snow becomes much more difficult,” said Mike Tout, Director of Roads for the County of Brant. “There are several things that residents can do to help. Firstly, please do not park your vehicles on the road. This slows down plowing and doesn’t allow us to effectively clear the roads. Also, please do not push snow from your driveway or parking lot onto the road allowance. This is a major safety hazard for other drivers.”
The County bylaw prohibits citizens from depositing snow or ice upon a sidewalk or the roadway (i.e. beyond the limits of your property line) and contravention of this bylaw could result in a fine.
“All available resources will be out for the storm,” said Tout. “We are already preparing for this storm which includes rain, followed by heavy snow and then very cold temperatures again.”
Crews are clearing catch basins to allow the thawed snow to escape off the road during the brief warm up.
“The more we can work together as a community, the safer our roads will be,” said Tout.
