Brantford man charged attempted murder after assault

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) –  A 36-year-old Brantford man has been charged with attempted murder after a fight broke out at a Brant County home Saturday.

Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)   were called to  an incident at a Brant Road, County of Brant, Ontario, address Saturday, January 13, 2018 at about  4:54 p.m.,  by a resident reporting an assault.

Police said  two  men became engaged in a verbal altercation which then turned into a physical confrontation involving an edged weapon. As a result, the victim received serious injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. The accused was located shortly thereafter by the Brantford Police Service and was taken into custody without incident.

Police have charged  Justin Sherwood, 36, of Brantford, Ontario with attempt to commit murder, contrary to section 139(1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and disobey order of court.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Brantford at a later date.
