Two Six Nations women arrested after stealing public works vehicle

 

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police Haldimand County Detachment and Brant County Detachment (OPP) has charged two females after investigating a theft of a Brant County Roads Department vehicle from a Pleasant Ridge Road, Brant County, Ontario address.

On Thursday February 8, 2018 at 6:00 a.m., Brant County OPP responded to Pleasant Ridge Road after a Brant County Roads Department employee reported one of their 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck department vehicles had just been stolen from the Public Works yard.

The vehicle was last seen travelling north bound on Pleasant Ridge Road.

At 7:33 a.m., Haldimand County OPP responded to Main Street in Hagersville after a witness reported a Brant County Roads Department vehicle was driving recklessly in the area and had pulled into the Pioneer Gas station on Main Street. The witness further reported they saw someone fueling the vehicle before the vehicle fled the area.

OPP patrolled the area and did not locate the vehicle.

At 8:44 a.m., OPP responded to Concession 10 Walpole for a report of a Brant County Roads Department vehicle that had collided with the ditch in the area and the two female occupants had attended a local business requesting assistance.

OPP investigation has led to the arrest of the two females.

OPP has charged 31-year-old Jamie Leigh BEAVER of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation with:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension

OPP has also charged 25-year-old Stevy STAATS of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Both are to appear in Provincial Court Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.
