Layne Smith commits to Toronto Beaches

By: Neil Becker Sports Reporter The Toronto Beaches made quite the recent statement by signing former Six Nations Rebels scorer Layne Smith. Coming off a stellar campaign which saw him once again dominate the Junior ‘B’ circuit with 72 goals and 112 points, Smith recently committed to playing Junior ‘A’ this coming summer with the Beaches. “They’re a young team and really have the drive,” Smith said. “I’ve been told by an Arrows (Six Nations Arrows) star that they were really hard to play against. I know a few guys on the team as well.” Smith, who last summer made Rebels history by passing Dean Hill’s 131 goals in becoming the franchise number one scorer, had in his time wearing Rebels colours posted 162 goals and 272 total points.
