Maulers victorious at River Rats Showcase

By Neil Becker Sports Writer Rod Squire’s knack for scoring clutch goals paid off with championship gold for the Maulers Saturday. With just 43 seconds left in play, Squire made his presence known scoring the game winning goal that gave the Maulers a 9-8 River Rats showcase championship win over the Smith Lacrosse Tomahawks. “It was a fun tourney,” Squire said afterwards. “It’s always fun getting together with friends and playing lacrosse. We get along both on and off the floor.” Asked about the winning goal, which came on a three on two break, Squire replied with a laugh, “No one wanted to be the hero, so I just threw it on net.” Prior to the gold medal competition ILA fans witnessed a bronze medal game which saw plenty of…
