2019 Year of Indigenous Language, and a step to saving a planet

A new year is upon us and the best of 2019 has already begun with the United Nations declaring 2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages. And it hasn’t come to soon. UN statistics show of the 6,700 languages world wide a language is becoming extinct every two weeks. But it isn’t just language that is being threatened. Along with the loss of as many as 50 to 90 per cent of languages by the end of the century so goes Indigenous Peoples’ culture, history, identity and knowledge of eco-systems that could help save a planet.
