Softball legend Phyllis “Yogi” Bomberry passes away

By Neil Becker Sports Writer The Six Nations community is marking the loss of a sports legend and well-respected community member with the passing Phyllis “Yogi” Bomberry who’s athletic prowess led to her becoming a member in the Softball Canada Hall of Fame. Phyllis “Yogi” Bomberry served as both a model and mentor in the Six Nations community. She made her mark in softball where from 1951-’76 she excelled while staring for the Ohsweken Mohawks and winning consecutive Intermediate ‘B’ Provincial Softball Women’s Union Championships before being recruited to the Sr. ‘A’ Toronto Carpetland squad where they gold at Senior Canadian Women’s Softball Championship, Ontario Summer Games and the Canada Games.
