Legal bills cutting HCCC contributions to community groups

By Lynda Powless Editor The Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) initiated Burtch lawsuit and an outstanding class action suit are cutting funding for local language and community programs. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council (HCCC) learned Saturday that legal costs for Burtch and a class action suit have dipped into the grant funding pot making only $750,000 out of a $1 million budget available to community groups. Two weeks ago HCCC accountant, Rick Saul, warned the council to delay its grant program until costs for its outstanding legal issues were cleared Instead the HCCC approved $588,565 in grants for, four language programs Saturday leaving $161,434 available.
