Channer is growing the game of basketball for First Nation athletes By Josh Giles Sports Writer Dee Channer is the head coach of Conestoga’s women’s basketball team, as well as a coach at the Rising Stars Basketball Academy, and she has a soft spot for helping other Indigenous athletes succeed. Channer is a member of James Bay Cree and enjoys working with young Indigenous basketball players. “Working with Indigenous youth, I just love their style of play. I know some of the barricades that First Nations players face sometimes, I just want to show them that there’s more than just playing on the rez,” said Channer.
