Al Staats wins coaching scholarship

By Josh Giles Writer Al Staats likes to stay out of the limelight. He has been coaching softball for Six Nations youth for over 15 years and loves the game. But now a national coachingprogram is forcing him out of his comfort zone. The Aboriginal Apprenticeship Coaching Program listed him as one of the chosen few from across Canada to get a chance to learn more about his craft. When Staats found out, he said he was blown away with the honour. The excitement was doubled when he learned he was being “coached” by his friend and mentor Scott Searle, the head coach for U21 Men’s Team Ontario Program preparing for the 2021 Canada Games and who served as assistant coach for the team that won gold in the 2017…
