Lynn Lavallée on the sports panel and progression of sports in First Nations communities

During Indigenous Peoples Day, Dr. Lynn Lavallée participated on a panel discussion alongside Olympians Waneek Horn-Miller, and Spencer O’Brien and other Indigenous athletes Trina Pauls and Serena Porter. It was an enlightening conversation to say the least. The five of them talked about Indigenous people in sport and how they can implement change in their communities. Lavallée had an amazing time with the panel. “I think the panel they put together was amazing. Having a well-rounded panel with Olympic athletes. It was enjoyable to be included in that,” she said. But more importantly, how people in First Nations communities can overcome obstacles to excel in sports. “The call to action is important and there’s merit behind that. People need to know where it’s going, and how much funding it happening.”…
