Harvest Time…that means Harvestfest at Route 54

Truckloads of vegetables were given away and within two hours local residents cleared the goodies.

By Donna Duric Writer It’s been a tough year but over 200 families were able to experience the beauty of a fall bounty thanks to local farmer and entrepreneur Kris Hill. Hill, owner of Route 54 Variety and Gas, gave out thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetable during her annual fall harvest event at her Chiefswood Road business. Normally held outdoors with festival-like activities, things were a bit different this year due to Covid-19. The event was held drive-through style to keep people from mingling and practice physical distancing. Word got out about the free food giveaway, with cars lined up down Chiefswood Road well before the scheduled time of 11 a.m. The food was all gone by 11 with only potatoes left, and those were also gone…
