Saskatchewan celebrate Fred Sasakamoose Day

By Josh Giles Writer May 18 was Fred Sasakamoose Day, across the province of Saskatchewan, and they used the day to remember the first Indigenous player in NHL history. It was also an opportunity for many family and friends of Sasakamoose to get together and mourn his loss from November 24. Meeting for the ceremony at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, they had to limit the meeting number to 30 people, but it was still livestreamed online for all to see. Saskatoon Tribal Chief Mark Arcand was on hand to remember Sasakamoose. “When people make an impact in our communities, families, province, country and the world, their names live forever.
