Calls to search Mount Elgin Indian Residential School grounds

By Victoria Gray Writer Myenngun Henry needs the government’s help to save the last remaining structure of the Mount Elgin Indian Residential School and find the remains of children he knows are there. Henry, a former chief of the Chippewa of the Thames Nation attended a federal and provincial funding announcement for The Mohawk Residential School restorations where he shouted out he needed to speak with the federal ministers. “We need help,” he said. “It was really important for them, that all the kids matter and I really hope that they look at the other school that’s in southern Ontario that our kids went to.” Henry said he’s sick of grovelling for much needed funding for the area. “We’ve talked to many (government representatives) we’ve gotten no real response.
