Language commission seeking funding from Six Nations Elected Council

By Victoria Gray Writer Indigenous languages are endangered and so is the agreement for Six Nations to fund it locally. The Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) has supported the Six Nations Language Commission (SNLC) since its inception in 2007, but the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two ends this year and a new agreement hasn’t been finalized yet. Karen Sandy, coordinator of the SNLC asked SNEC to add the commission to its budget as a regular line item at its General Finance Committee meeting on March 7.
