Six Nations Children’s softball diamond gets improvement

The Six Nations Children’s Softball Diamond may get a facelift courtesy of the Toronto Blue Jays. The Six Nations Elected Council supported a recreation department application to the Toronto Blue Jays – Jays Care Foundation Field of Dreams Fund to expand the field and encourage older children to use it as well. Cheryl Henhawk, director of the recreation department told the Human Services Committee on March 2 that as it stands the diamond is only playable for children up to around age 10 because the outfield isn’t playable due to drainage issues. The application will give then $449,916 to improve the Children’s Softball Diamond on Fourth Line road in Ohsweken by adding drainage and expanding the outfield by laying more soil to fill the swell.
