Little NHL officials planning for 2023 tournament return

By Sam Laskaris Writer It’s all systems go for 2023. That’s the current thinking for organizers of one of the country’s most prestigious Indigenous youth hockey tournaments. Officials were forced to cancel the Little Native Hockey League tournament in 2020, ’21 and ’22 because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Reps from Nipissing First Nation in northern Ontario have been trying to host the tourney – which is often more simply called the Little NHL – in each of those three years. Because the tournament has grown – more than 200 teams from across Ontario had been entering annually prior to the pandemic – Little NHL officials have been forced to stage the event in a large city, with several hotels and rinks to accommodate all participants.
