Local women’s lacrosse squad recognizing late Six Nations player

By Sam Laskaris Writer The Ohsweken 66erz are one of the latest Six Nations lacrosse success stories. Some local fans, however, might be puzzled by the moniker of the women’s lacrosse squad. The club, which competes in the Women’s Arena Lacrosse League (WALL), was previously called the Lady Shockwave. All four entrants in the WALL play their home contests out of the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA) in Hagersville. The 66erz were rebranded during the off-season. Alisha Smith, the captain of the Oshweken team, explained in a story on the league’s website as to the significance of the name 66erz.
