The flood was caused by heavy rain in the area. The city of Lethbridge saw 55 mm of rain with some areas west of the city seeing nearly 300mm in a short time period. David Carpenter, who was the mayor of Lethbridge in 1995, knows all too well the power of the river. Growing up, Carpenter\u2019s father was the chief of police. During the flood of 1964, constable Calvin Byam was swept away by the flood waters. \u201cDad was really, really upset about that.\u201d Carpenter explained in an interview with the Herald… <\/p>\n
