QEC still needs to ratify the contract for it to come into effect, but the utility already negotiated the terms with the union. Unionized QEC employees will receive a retroactive wage increase of 12 per cent from the hours they worked between January 2025 to January of this year, followed by a two per cent wage increase each year until 2028. The new contract runs until Dec. 31 2028. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is now a paid holiday for QEC employees under the new contract.
