The lawyer and activist says the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30 brings to mind the pace of progress in her birthplace of Greenland and her home in Nunavut. “When you look at the recommendations by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, very few of them have been implemented. Many of them are stalled, and many others haven’t even been looked at,” Peter said. Non-profit organization Indigenous Watchdog says 41 per cent of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action are either not started or delayed as of Aug. 1.
