Those 18 and older who either live on the reserve, or nearby, can apply to participate in a five-day emergency response course that starts on Aug. 21. The course, which is free for participants, still has some spaces available, a Fort William First Nation community bulletin said. Once they’ve successfully completed the course, participants receive an Ontario emergency first responder certificate and a standard first-aid provider certificate. “Our first response team is one of about 50 First Nation response teams in Ontario mandated by the Ministry of Health,” the bulletin said.
