The County of Brant purchased the lot at 25 Newport Road in July 2021 with the plan to create 37 parking spots for people who wanted access to the Grand River. In response to an inquiry about the property\u2019s potential archaeological significance, Brant brought Archaeological Consultants Canada (ACC) to assess the site. ACC assessed a 20 by 80 metre area on the site and were monitored by both the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and Six Nations of the Grand River. Before the project\u2019s cancellation, ACC completed three stages of assessments and located 1311 artifacts, 1174 of which were Indigenous.
