Several Michipicoten First Nation members have told The Sault Star they feel unheard by the current chief and council. A key point of contention is a financial administration bylaw passed January 2023, which requires the band to freeze 60 per cent of the treaty settlement for 15 years. After five years, the interest can be used. A Band Council Resolution (BCR) was passed about two months ago to rescind the bylaw, mandating community consultation and a referendum to determine the allocation of RST funds.
