The poll, \u201cSpecial status or equal treatment?\u201d found that 55 percent of Canadians believe Indigenous nations \u201chave no special status\u201d in Canada. Sixty percent said Indigenous communities should be governed \u201cby the same systems and rules as other Canadians.\u201d According to Jon Roe, research associate with the Angus Reid institute, the survey was a part of a larger survey series, gauging Canadians perceptions on contemporary Indigenous issues. \u201cThese were questions that we had asked previously in 2018,\u201d Roe said. \u201cSo, it had been a while since we looked at these questions and see whether or not Canadians’ perceptions had changed.\u201d… <\/p>\n
