The proposal was \u201cinformed by consultations with Indigenous communities across Ontario,\u201d and its release is intended \u201cto support ongoing consultations,\u201d according to the government. The Ring of Fire \u2014 8,000 square kilometres of mineral-rich land about 500 km north of Thunder Bay \u2014 is one place the government is likely to declare a special economic zone for expedited economic projects.
