Mi’kmaq elder Katy Macewan opened a meeting with prayer recently when members of Membertou First Nation gathered to hear the history of the King’s Road Reserve – the site their ancestors called home for centuries. It was fitting for Macewan because she is a surviving member of the last family that was forced to leave the Sydney reserve by the federal government in 1929.
