By Lynda Powless Editor Six Nations own source funding and a huge Canadian Human Rights Tribunal Agreement reforming First Nations Child and Family services is helping keep the band out of the black. Six Nations Elected Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill said the band received $182 million in government funding from a Canadian Human Rights (CHR) ruling affecting all First Nations in Canada. In March, of 2026, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal approved a landmark $8.5 billion Ontario Final Agreement to reform First Nations child and family services. It was part of a massive multi-year move to deal with discrimination in the on-reserve child welfare system.
