‘A long time coming’ for Six Nations as historical land claim court case finally begins

Six Nations decades long land claim finally went to trial on Monday in Toronto after Six Nations (SGNR)  sued Canada and Ontario, a case that began in 1995 over sold land spanning more than 150-years. Under the 1784 Haldimand Proclamation, which Six Nations says is undoubtedly a ‘treaty’, the Crown granted about 950,000 acres of land to SNGR in Ontario, known as the Haldimand Tract, in return for their alliance during the Revolutionary War.
