EDMONTON- The mayor of Alberta’s capital introduced a motion calling for an emergency to be declared over homelessness and housing Monday, along with a plan for immediate and systemic change. Amarjeet Sohi told a special city council meeting that action has to be taken now, adding that 300 people have died as a result of homelessness over the past year. “Service providers are being forced into unsustainable expansion to keep up with the demand.
