By Alex Murray Writer A new 100-unit, Indigenous-led supportive housing development that could help de-escalate the Indigenous housing crisis in Toronto was announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Toronto mayor Olivia Chow on August 5. Miziwe Biik Development Corporation (MBDC) will help Toronto find an Indigenous developer for the project. MBDC has been working with the City since 2020 on initiatives like this to improve housing outcomes for Indigenous residents. “Addressing the significant need for affordable and culturally appropriate housing for Indigenous peoples living off-reserve requires sustained investment and collaboration across all orders of government,” MBDC told Turtle Island News.
