The Six Nations Language Commission (SNLC) will receive $1,096,400 in funding for the 2026–27 fiscal year after Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) approved the organization’s funding request at the General Finance Committee meeting on August 17. “It took one generation, but we did it ourselves in this community because you know we’re always talking about sovereignty. We always want to know what that is. This is the sovereignty of who we are, trying to support languages,” Councillor Amos Key Jr. said. The funding decision followed the Commission’s annual presentation from Karen Sandy, executive director, Roronhiakehte Deer, an instructor and language revitalization strategist.
