Six Nations has had only three elected female chiefs since the band system was imposed in 1924. And of those three, no one stands out more than Ava Hill. A former councillor turned Elected Chief, there was never any question about her loyalty to working for the community. Ava took the helm of the community with just a two- vote lead, but she turned that narrow margin into a victory for the community with simple hard-core advocacy work. She had hopes during her term of seeing the many factions that exist within the community move to unify, but didn’t let those barriers stand in her way of promoting and working for all of Six Nations.
