The Tsleil-Waututh Nation posted the announcement on their website last week, saying the chief has made the decision to step down due to health and wellness considerations. “This is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made,” George said in the Nation’s announcement. “Serving as chief has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I have been humbled by the trust placed in me and I will always carry with me the privilege of serving our people whom I love so much.” George began his term on July 1, 2025, succeeding previous Chief Jen Thomas who had held the position since 2021.
