Fake “Indian” status cards may be circulating

LONDON, ONT-  The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) is alerting the public after fake Indigenous status cards began surfacing  in the area. AIAI says the cards are being issued  by an individual named William Denby ad claim he has been “falsely representing himself as Indigenous and has been creating false status cards.” AIAI says the cards “have no official recognition with any First Nation, government, or otherwise and are being presented as such by a group calling itself ‘Kawartha Lakes First Nation’”. “These cards undermine all the work Nations, Indigenous and Non-Indigenous, have been driving toward for reconciliation and recognition.” Says Grand Chief Joel Abram. “Mr. Denby is attempting to assert rights and authority over lands illegitimately, and they hold no legitimate claims whatsoever.
