By Alex Murray, Writer Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) is pushing to see Six Nations members that ended up in unmarked graves after serving in World War I and World War II properly recognized. SNEC approved and carried a recommendation from the Community Committee to honor Six Nations members who served during World War I and World War II with dedicated grave markers. Councillor Dean Hill said in July 2025 Last Post Fund Indigenous Program Coordinator Maria Trujillo had reached out to Six Nations to inform the community that, through the Indigenous Veterans Initiative (IVI), she had identified eight veterans from Six Nations of the Grand River who may be resting in unmarked graves.
