For decades the federal government imprisoned our children in residential schools. The goal was to assimilate the children into the white society thereby “getting rid of Indians.” Children and families and the Six Nations community continue to deal with the intergenerational trauma. In speaking only for myself and not the Six Nations Grand River Elected Council (SNGREC) over decades the federal government used any number of tactics to get rid of the “Indian Problem.” And they continue to do so.
