Eight Mi’kmaq communities filed a notice of action in the Court of Kings Bench in Miramichi on Thursday claiming they have Aboriginal title to the entire eastern portion of the province – but also the northern part of the province all the way to Edmundston and territory even farther west than Saint John. In a media release, the organization representing the communities – Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Inc. (MTI) – said the provincial government left it little choice but to pursue legal action.
