The read-a-thon was hatched by the YMCA of Hamilton Burlington Brantford as part of its Beyond the Bell program, which provides after-school learning enrichment to students in priority areas. One example is this “playful competition,” which aims to get the students interested in reading and working as a team, area supervisor Patrick Pfeiffer said. It pits I.L.
